Lot 167 1797 S-137 R2 EF40

1797 S-137 R2 EF40Glossy light brown with frosty golden tan faded down from mint color in protected areas and slightly darker steel brown on the highpoints. There is very little actual wear on this cent but the strike was blunted in the center of the obverse from a buildup of lubricant (a problem that is common on the earlier die states of the variety). No notable marks other than some of the usual tiny planchet flakes or chips in the softly struck areas. E-MDS, Breen state III, with a fine die crack from the right end of the wreath ribbon to the dentils. The repunching below the first S in STATES is sharp. Graded EF40 and tied for CC#5 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF45 Choice and CC#3, his photo #26470. Comes with a nice provenance.Certificate Number: Pedigree: Ex William Rabin 1934-Judge Thomas L.
