Lot 94 Tang Style Parcel-Gilt Bronze Metal Horse Figurine
This Chinese parcel-gilt bronze metal horse figurine is executed in the archaistic style of the Tang Dynasty. The sculpture depicts a celebrated dancing horse in a spirited prancing posture with the front right leg raised and the head slightly turned. The animal is fully caparisoned, featuring a detailed saddle and a long, pleated saddlecloth draped over its flanks. The mane is defined by incised vertical lines. The figure is integrated into a rectangular plinth base decorated with a band of relief-cast stylized lotus petals around the perimeter. The surface exhibits a heavy, mottled patina with significant green malachite and reddish-brown cuprite oxidation. Extensive loss to the original parcel-gilding is present, with gold leaf remaining primarily in recessed areas. The underside of the base shows a dark, uniform surface and is fitted with four modern green felt pads.
