Lot 90 Royal Doulton Athos and Night Watchman Large Character Jugs

A pair of large Royal Doulton character jugs crafted in fine earthenware at the Burslem, England factory. Both pieces were modeled by Max Henk and feature molded, hand-painted underglaze decoration with a high-gloss finish. The first jug, Athos (D6439), is part of The Three Musketeers series and depicts the character in a dark brown wide-brimmed hat with a prominent white ostrich feather, featuring a handle shaped like a sword hilt and blade. The base is marked with the green Royal Doulton lion, crown, and roundel backstamp, titled Athos (One of the Three Musketeers), model D 6439, and COPR 1955, with registration numbers Rd No 877328, Rd No 34106, Rd No 7245, and Rd No 298/55. The second jug, Night Watchman (D6569), is from the Character Jugs from Williamsburg series, depicting the figure in a black tricorn hat and red-collared cloak over a dark green coat with a lantern-form handle. The base bears the green Royal Doulton backstamp, titled Character Jugs from Williamsburg, subject Night Watchman, model D 6569, and COPR 1962, with registration numbers Rd No 906338, Rd No 43446, Rd No 8225, and Rd No 285/62. Dimensions: Each approximately 7 to 7.5 inches in height.
