Lot 47 Pair of Art Nouveau Bronze Commemorative Plaques, Pawlik and Recoura

This lot features a pair of cast bronze rectangular plaques executed in the Art Nouveau style, dated 1909. The first plaque, a pastoral scene titled Woman Feeding Geese, is attributed to the Austrian medalist Franz Xaver Pawlik (1865-1906). It depicts a peasant girl in low relief holding a water jug while tending to three geese. An intertwined PR monogram is located in the upper-left corner, and the reverse is blank. The second plaque is a commemorative work by French sculptor Raymond Recoura (1863-1944), produced for the 350th anniversary of the University of Geneva. The obverse shows a partially draped allegorical female figure reclining on a rocky shore, pointing toward the distant Geneva skyline. It is signed R. RECOURA along the lower relief edge. The reverse bears a relief of a tied palm frond and the commemorative inscription L'UNIVERSITE DE GENEVE A SES HOTES SOUVENIR DU JUBILE 1559-1909. Both plaques are high-quality sand castings featuring the fluid, organic lines characteristic of the period.
