Lot 17 Chinese Carved White Jade Guanyin Figurine with Wooden Stand
The deity is depicted in a graceful posture upon a rocky base. The primary pair of hands is held in a mudra at the chest, while the secondary pair is raised, with one hand holding a mala and the other a lotus sprig. This carved stone Buddhist figurine is skillfully rendered from a single piece of semi-translucent jade-like of an even pale white tone. The carving features extensive undercutting and piercing to define the billowing celestial ribbons and multilayered robes. The figure is adorned with an elaborate foliate crown, beaded necklaces, and bangles. The dark hardwood stand is intricately carved with ruyi-head scrolls, cloud scrolls, and a key-fret border.
