Lot 6 English Victorian Majolica Gurgling Fish Pitchers

This 2pc set of Majolica gurling fish pitchers consists of two graduated figural vessels produced in England during the late 19th century. These earthenware pitchers are modeled as upright fish with open mouths serving as spouts and tails forming the handles. The items feature detailed molded relief scales and fins, finished with hand-applied polychrome glazes in a high-gloss palette of charcoal, gray, and cream, with brown accents and mottled green and yellow bases. Known as gurgling or gluggle jugs, these are classic examples of English Victorian novelty ceramics. The unglazed undersides are unmarked. Measurement is for largest item.
