Lot 98 Dated German Blue and White Faience Plate with Saxon Arms, 1782
A late 18th-century German faience plate, painted in cobalt blue on a white tin-glazed ground with a crowned Saxon armorial, the inscription Vivat Sachsen, and the date 1782, within a simple repeating border. The reverse with a small blue underglaze mark resembling a curved C and star-like device. The plate is best catalogued as German faience, possibly Hanau, rather than firmly assigned to a specific manufactory. Condition with multiple rim chips and glaze losses, including one larger loss to the border, together with general age-related wear.
