Lot 383 Staffordshire English Enamels Treasure Box with Robert Browning Quote
A Staffordshire Enamels enamel-on-copper hinged treasure box of oval form. The exterior is decorated with a continuous garland of peaches and green leaves encircling the body and the perimeter of the lid. The center of the lid features a calligraphic inscription of the Robert Browning quote: Grow old along with me, The best is yet to be. The interior of the lid is further embellished with a small cluster of peaches. The box is finished with a gilded metal mount and a secure hinge. The base bears the printed manufacturer's mark in black, featuring a silhouette logo of an 18th-century couple above the words STAFFORDSHIRE ENAMELS and MADE IN ENGLAND. There is also a hand-painted mark in teal green that reads EPW. This item includes the original burgundy presentation box from the Ian Marshall Collection and the manufacturer's descriptive pamphlet.
