^Lot 341 Minton by Ellen Welby (1851-1936) Earthenware Aesthetic Movement Portrait Bowl

The shallow circular form features a central profile portrait of a woman wearing a white floral wreath against a turquoise ground, enclosed by an orange-yellow circular band. The wide rim is decorated on a deep cobalt blue ground with five putti in various poses. A putto at the bottom holds a banner inscribed A.D. 1886. Two putti at the top flank a heraldic crest depicting a golden lion over three owls. Two side putti are shown playing pipes. The composition is embellished with scrolling yellow flowers and green acanthus leaf motifs in a Renaissance Revival style. The underside bears the Minton impressed stamp, and signed E. Welby 1886.
