Lot 337 Pair of Framed Doulton Peacock and Maiden Bifold Tile Panel Screens

Crafted by the Doulton, each screen is formed as a two-panel folding divider with stained wood frames fitted with Art Nouveau-style tiles. A total of twelve tiles are present, arranged as three tiles per panel across four panels. One panel depicts a maiden wearing a flowing yellow gown and medieval-style headdress, set against a deep blue ground beside a tree. The remaining panels feature central vignettes of peacocks perched on flowering branches against a similar deep blue ground. Each vignette is enclosed within a stylized rectangular border and surrounded by scrolling acanthus leaves, floral elements, and cornucopia motifs. The tiles are rendered in green, ochre, yellow, and reddish-pink glazes with a high-gloss finish. The panels are joined by metal hinges and fitted with plywood backings. Each when open: 26"W x 41.25"H x 1"D. Each when closed: 13"W x 41.25"H x 2.25"D.
