Lot 319 Wedgwood Blue Lustre and Gilt Plate with Calf Motif from the Rubin Collection
This circular porcelain plate is manufactured by Wedgwood and features a powder blue ground. The central motif depicts two white calves or oxen standing in gilded grass, a design derived from the Venturino Mercati Book of Hours in the Morgan Library and Museum. The rim is decorated with a gilded laurel leaf border and a gold-lined edge. The reverse displays a gold printed Wedgwood factory mark with a classical urn and the word England. Additional markings include a red handwritten alphanumeric code C1687. This piece carries provenance from the Zeitlin Collection and the Rubin Collection, as evidenced by collector labels, and includes a Skinner auction house label.
