Lot 273 Wedgwood Bone China American Sporting Dog Plate Wirehaired Pointing Griffon
This Wedgwood bone china cabinet plate is part of The American Sporting Dog Plates series and features the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. The decoration is hand painted based on original etchings by the artist Marguerite Kirmse. The central vignette depicts the dog standing in a field of tall grass and wildflowers. The rim is adorned with six smaller hand painted vignettes of game animals in their natural habitats, including mallard ducks, a running hare, and pheasants. The edge is finished with a gilt rim and a decorative border of oak leaves and acorns in a golden-brown tone. The underside of the plate bears a gold Wedgwood urn mark and the following transcription: WEDGWOOD, Bone China, MADE IN ENGLAND, SPORTING DOG PLATES, hand painted from the original etchings by Marguerite Kirmse, WIREHAIRED POINTING GRIFFON, Of rugged breed, especially at home in rough country and has all the attributes of a Pointer or Setter, Limited Edition of 200 sets. A circular black and white sticker from the Rubin Collection is also attached to the base.
