Lot 272 Wedgwood Etruria Queen's Ware Spaniel Dog Portrait Plate from the Rubin Collection
A Wedgwood fine earthenware decorative plate, specifically Queen's Ware or creamware, manufactured in Etruria, England. The central medallion features a realistic transfer-printed and hand-enameled portrait of a spaniel dog wearing a buckled collar, surrounded by green foliage and pink flowers. The elaborate border consists of an outer dark green band and a magenta-ground scrollwork pattern interspersed with yellow architectural pavilions. An inner lavender-pink band contains cartouches depicting sepia-toned putti playing with birds and grapes. The reverse bears a brown transfer-printed mark with the British Registered Design number Rd No 1474 in a rectangular frame, positioned above the text ETRURIA, ENGLAND and the maker name WEDGWOOD. A hand-painted pattern number A4422 appears in magenta. The item includes a circular sticker for the Rubin Collection and various handwritten pencil notations including Dog Plate and C 1900.
