Lot 268 Set of Five Wedgwood Etruria Pierced Maritime Ship Plates from The Rubin Collection
A set of five circular earthenware creamware plates manufactured by Wedgwood at the Etruria works in England. These plates feature wide reticulated or pierced basket-weave borders and scalloped rims accented with a hand-applied green line. The central wells are decorated with various maritime scenes depicting multi-masted sailing ships at sea. The decoration technique consists of transfer-printing with hand-painted polychrome overglaze accents in shades of orange, blue, purple, and green. On the reverse, the plates bear a stamped mark in ink that reads Wedgwood Etruria England and Made in England. There are hand-painted characters in blue-green ink, including 9405 b, and a separate stamped number 14. One or more plates bear a circular silver foil adhesive label for the Rubin Collection.
