^Lot 263 Wedgwood G. L. Siever Hand Painted Portrait Charger 1882

This earthenware charger, manufactured by Wedgwood, features a hand painted Renaissance style portrait by the artist G. L. Siever. The central subject is a profile portrait of a young woman wearing a blue cap adorned with gold braiding and pearls, a lace trimmed collar, and a blue and teal gown. The background is finished with heavy gilding and a tooled foliate scroll pattern. The front of the piece is signed G. Siever and dated 83 in the lower right. The reverse bears a stamped blue mark for G. L. Siever and an impressed Wedgwood mark. A circular gray sticker for the Rubin Collection is present on the back, corresponding with the ww rubin reference. A metal wire hanger is attached to the reverse.
