Lot 260 Wedgwood Bone China Limited Edition The Family Plaque
This item is a limited edition transfer-printed fine bone china plaque produced by Wedgwood, titled The Noble Line of Wedgwood. The scene is after an 18th-century conversation piece by George Stubbs depicting the Milbanke and Melbourne families in a parkland setting, identified as the grounds of Etruria Hall. The composition features figures in period attire on horseback, a seated couple on a garden bench, and two children in a small horse-drawn carriage. The plaque utilizes a stippled lithographic transfer technique to replicate the detail and soft color palette of the original work. The reverse is finished with a contemporary fiberboard backing featuring a circular aperture that reveals the Wedgwood manufacturer mark. Gold lettering on the porcelain reverse reads: OBSTANTIA DISCINDO / The Noble Line / of / Wedgwood / The Family Plaque / In A Limited Edition of 500. A circular sticker for the Rubin Collection is present on the backing, consistent with the ww rubin markings. The piece is housed in a substantial dark mahogany-toned wood frame with a gilded inner liner.
