Lot 259 Wedgwood Brown Glazed High Relief Framed Mythological Relief Wall Plaque

This high-relief ceramic plaque is identified as Wedgwood, featuring a complex mythological scene molded in earthenware. The composition depicts an allegory of the Nereids, a design frequently associated with the sculptor Claude Michel, known as Clodion. The scene is centered on a seated female figure with flowing hair, partially draped in fabric. To the left, an attendant carries a large tray of fruit and flowers above their head. A second female figure and a putto are positioned in the foreground, appearing to emerge from swirling water alongside dolphin-like heads. The plaque is finished with a deep chocolate-brown glaze featuring a strong iridescent metallic luster, creating multi-colored highlights across the raised surfaces. The reverse is sealed with brown backing paper and bears an adhesive label from the Southwest Gallery in Dallas, Texas, and a small circular silver-toned sticker for the Rubin Collection. The item is housed in a modern wood frame with a dark burled-effect finish and a gilded inner lip.
