Lot 256 Wedgwood Chinese Red Glazed Ceramic Deer Wall Platter

This Chinese red glazed ceramic charger, identified by the marking ww deer platter, is constructed from an earthenware body with a glossy red glaze finish on both the interior and exterior. The interior well features a black transfer printed landscape scene depicting a large stag and two does in a hilly setting with stylized grass and trees. Faint silhouettes of additional deer are visible in the background against a sky rendered with horizontal cloud streaks. The rim is decorated with a continuous geometric border of diagonal hatched lines and six equidistant stylized floral medallions. The base of the piece bears an impressed mark reading MADE IN CHINA, indicating its production for the international export market during the early to mid-20th century. The reverse also carries several provenance and inventory markings, including a circular white label for the Rubin Collection, a yellow rectangular inventory label with the numbers 115349 and 716, and a partial white label with blue handwritten numbers 2351 and 521. A wire wall hanging apparatus is currently attached to the low, unglazed foot rim.
