Lot 254 Wedgwood Chinoiserie Earthenware Covered Tureen

This Wedgwood covered serving dish or tureen is crafted from fine earthenware. The piece features a circular, shallow, footed body with two scrolling handles accented with gilding. It is accompanied by a matching domed lid topped with a fluted, flower-form finial. The decoration is executed in a Chinoiserie style, utilizing transfer-printed outlines with vibrant hand-painted enamel highlights. The pattern depicts various birds in flight amidst gnarled pine trees, stylized rocks, and floral sprays in a palette of green, orange, blue, and yellow. The rim of both the lid and the body is finished with a delicate black geometric border and an orange pinstripe. The base of the dish bears a printed mark in brown and gold featuring a classical urn symbol above the words WEDGWOOD and MADE IN ENGLAND. A small circular sticker from the Rubin Collection, numbered 1016, is also present on the underside.
