Lot 248 Wedgwood Lilac Jasperware Aneroid Barometer
This circular wall-mounted aneroid barometer features a lilac jasperware body manufactured by Wedgwood in England. The matte stoneware surface is decorated with white bas-relief sprigged ornamentation depicting a continuous border of grapevine swags. The central barometer mechanism, produced by Short and Mason, is housed within a polished gold-tone metal bezel. The dial displays a central white jasperware medallion with a Neoclassical chariot scene, surrounded by atmospheric indications including Stormy, Rain, Change, Fair, and Very Dry, with a mercury scale from 28 to 31. The reverse of the ceramic body bears the impressed marks WEDGWOOD, MADE IN ENGLAND. A circular sticker on the black metal housing identifies the piece as part of the Rubin Collection. The item is accompanied by an original paper instructional pamphlet titled THE BAROMETER HOW IT WORKS.
