^Lot 237 Wedgwood Gilded Black Basalt Egyptian Oblong Box with Lid

This lot features a Wedgwood Jasperware gilded black basalt Egyptian oblong box with lid. The piece is crafted from matte black stoneware, known as black basalt. The lid is decorated with a gilded bas-relief motif depicting three crocodiles positioned beneath a chalice and stylized scrollwork. The box is rectangular in form with a smooth, unglazed finish. The underside is impressed with the factory mark WEDGWOOD and MADE IN ENGLAND. Additional markings include the number 75 and a partially illegible decorator mark or date code.
