This Wedgwood black basalt and jasperware trinket box is designed in a hexagonal form with a flush-fitting lid. The item is crafted from matte, fine-grained black stoneware. The lid features a gilded relief motif in the Egyptian Revival style, depicting a Ba-bird, a mythological figure with a human head and bird body, adjacent to a sistrum instrument. The interior and exterior of the box have a uniform matte black finish. No factory marks or impressed signatures are visible on the base.
