^Lot 233 T. Smith Co Salt-Glazed Stoneware Elephant and Flower Glazed Jug

This T. Smith Co stoneware elephant and flower vase with blue accents is a salt-glazed jug featuring an ovoid body, a flared neck with a pinched pouring spout, and a single scrolled handle. The vessel is set upon a pedestal-style foot. The decorative program includes applied sprigging, incised lines, and slip painting. Molded floral rosettes are applied in horizontal bands around the shoulder and the lower section of the body. One face of the jug displays an incised elephant highlighted in cobalt blue, while the opposite side features a floral and foliate spray executed in blue slip. The exterior is finished in a characteristic salt glaze, providing an orange peel texture over the buff stoneware body. The underside of the base bears an impressed oval mark for T. Smith Co, dated 1873.
