^Lot 231 Doulton Lambeth Silicon Ware by John Broad and Emily Welch Bird Vase

A rectangular body with a tapered, scalloped neck and a short rectangular foot. The earthenware piece is decorated with four distinct panels using hand-incised and painted techniques. One primary face depicts a single bird perched within a stylized foliate cartouche, while the opposing face shows two birds nestled among blossoms and leaves. The side panels are decorated with vertical stylized floral and scrollwork designs. The decorative scheme utilizes a palette of dusty blue-gray, tan, cream, and dark brown, accented with extensive gold gilding. The interior of the vase is finished with a dark brown glaze. The base bears an impressed rectangular seal mark for Doulton Silicon Lambeth along with an incised artists' monograms.
