Lot 205 Royal Doulton Trial Colorway Large Character Jug, Monty D6202
Bernard Law Montgomery (1887-1976), 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein ("Monty"), was a leading British commander in WWII, noted for the Allied victory in North Africa (1942) and accepting the German surrender at Luneburg Heath (1945). This large character jug portrays Montgomery in a black and gray uniform, wearing a black beret adorned with hand-painted gilt badges. The grayish-green handle is decorated with the names of various theaters of war. The underside bears the Royal Doulton backstamp, along with a provenance sticker from the American Toby Jug Museum.
