^Lot 202 Royal Doulton Prototype Character Jug, Orville Wright

This large-scale Royal Doulton character jug depicts aviation pioneer Orville Wright, identified as model D7178. The figure is rendered in fine earthenware with a high-gloss glaze, wearing a black newsboy-style cap, a maroon jacket, a yellow collared shirt, and a green necktie. The sculpted handle is modeled as folded newspapers and documents, featuring a bas-relief depiction of the Wright Flyer, a portrait medallion of Wilbur Wright, and a commemorative banner at the base. The handle includes printed and painted text: KILL DEVIL HILLS, NEAR KITTY HAWK WORLD'S FIRST FLIGHT 17 DEC 1903 and a banner inscribed with the dates 1871-1948. The underside of the base features a black printed Royal Doulton factory mark consisting of a lion standing upon a crown over a circular emblem.
