This Royal Doulton large character jug depicts the protagonist from The Phantom of the Opera. The piece is constructed from glazed earthenware and features hand-painted decoration under a high-gloss glaze. The figure is modeled wearing a black top hat with a gray band, a dual-colored black and red mask, and a white formal bowtie. The handle is elaborately shaped as a draped red theater curtain with a yellow tassel, a lantern, and a scroll reading PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. The base bears a green printed factory mark featuring a lion atop a crown over a circular Royal Doulton England stamp. Inscriptions on the base include Hand made and hand decorated, Royal Doulton, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, and D7017. It also features a printed signature for modeler David B.
