Lot 191 Royal Doulton Advertising Figurine, Lifebuoy Soap Boy MCL30
Introduced in 1894 by Lever Brothers, Lifebuoy was developed as an affordable red health soap with a distinctive carbolic scent, intended to help prevent the spread of cholera and germs. Known for its octagonal form and its memorable 1930s body odor advertising campaigns, it remained a household staple in both the United States and Britain for more than a century before being discontinued in the U.S. in 2006. This limited edition example, numbered 241 of 400 and produced for Millennium Collectables Ltd., features a young boy wearing an orange yellow sou'wester hat and a dark blue textured sweater, seated in a yellow crate marked Lifebuoy Soap and styled as a boat. He holds a miniature Lifebuoy soap box. The figure rests on a circular base modeled as blue and white churning water with a rope motif in relief along the border. The underside is marked with the Royal Doulton backstamp and the piece is accompanied by its certificate of authenticity.
