^Lot 186 Royal Doulton Prestige Pioneers Collection Figurine, Charles Darwin HN5239

This hand-made, hand-decorated polychrome figure portrays the naturalist Charles Darwin and is part of the Prestige Pioneers Collection, issued in a limited edition of 63 of 250. Darwin is shown with a long white beard, dressed in a dark brown overcoat, deep green waistcoat, and tan trousers, holding a red book in his right hand and a brown hat in his left. The circular pedestal base is adorned with sepia-toned imagery and inscriptions, including references to On the Origin of Species and The Descent of Man, a facsimile of Darwin's signature, a map of the Galapagos Archipelago, finch studies, and a depiction of The Voyage of the Beagle (1831-1836). The underside bears the Royal Doulton backstamp. Certificate of Authenticity included.
