Lot 182 Staffordshire, Boy with Spaniel Flatback Figurine
This nineteenth-century Victorian Staffordshire flatback figurine is crafted from lead-glazed earthenware, often referred to as white-ware or creamware. The piece depicts a youth in period attire, featuring knee breeches, a long jacket, and a hooded cloak draped over his right shoulder. He is seated against a stylized rocky outcrop, cradling a spaniel-type dog on his lap. The base is accented with molded rococo-style C-scrolls. As a traditional flatback, the reverse is relatively flat and undecorated, intended for display against a wall or on a mantelpiece. There are no visible factory marks, model numbers, or decorator marks, which is characteristic of mass-produced Staffordshire figures from this era.
