Designed by Carruthers Gould, a glazed earthenware toby jug modeled as Admiral of the Fleet David Beatty, a prominent British naval commander of the First World War. The figural jug is formed in traditional toby style, depicting Beatty seated in naval uniform, with hand-painted facial features and a restrained polychrome glaze palette. The handle is integrated to the reverse. The underside marked Royal Staffordshire Pottery Wilkinson Ltd England backstamp.
