Lot 161 Royal Doulton by David Capewell Prototype Figurine, Lawrence of Arabia

This Royal Doulton porcelain figurine, identified as the Lawrence of Arabia prototype, depicts T.E. Lawrence mounted on a dromedary camel. The rider is dressed in traditional white robes with a flowing ochre-colored cloak and headpiece, brandishing a handgun in his raised right hand. The camel is depicted in a walking gait upon a textured, sandy-ground base, outfitted with an elaborate, multi-colored saddle blanket featuring geometric patterns and numerous suspended tassels in red, purple, yellow, and green. The item is constructed of glazed porcelain with hand-painted polychrome decoration. The base is marked with the Royal Doulton Prototype Only backstamp. Noted as "Prototype No. 1" and designed by David Capewell on 3-3-08.
