Lot 156 Bernard Moore Flambe Figurine, Billiken
Inspired by the Billiken charm doll, this figure represents the small, grinning character with pointed ears, a rounded belly, and a playful expression, seated with legs extended. The Billiken charm doll was created in 1908 by American artist Florence Pretz and sold as a good luck figure. Rising to popularity during the "Mind-Cure" movement in early twentieth-century America, it embodied the ideal of carefree living. This Bernard Moore example features a pointed crown, pronounced ears, a wide smile, and oversized feet. It is finished in a glaze of rich red tones blending into dark metallic shades at the base. The underside is marked BM for Bernard Moore.
