Lot 151 Wedgwood Bone China Limited Edition Figurine, Tutankhamun The Boy King
This Wedgwood bone china figurine depicts the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun and is titled Tutankhamun The Boy King. It is the first figurine in the Legends of the Nile collection and was sculpted by John Wincentzen. The figure is shown in a standing pose wearing a striped nemes headdress, a jeweled wesekh collar, and a patterned shendyt loincloth with a long decorative sash. He holds a gilded ankh in his right hand and a tall gilded staff in his left. The circular base features a cartouche with Egyptian hieroglyphs and stylized lotus motifs around the rim. The piece is constructed from glazed bone china with polychrome hand-painted details and 22 karat gold gilding. The underside of the base bears the Wedgwood Portland Vase logo and the text WEDGWOOD Bone China MADE IN ENGLAND. It is inscribed with the title, series name, and sculptor. This is a limited edition of 9,500, with the hand-written edition number 6,376. The base also includes the script CW monogram, model number CW 310, and a copyright for Compton and Woodhouse 1996. Hand-painted marks in teal (ML) and gold (MES) are present, as well as a yellow inspection sticker reading 3 INSP.
