Lot 93 Royal Doulton Prototype Figurine, Franceschina

Designed by Valerie Annand, a rare Royal Doulton prototype for the Franceschina model, later issued as HN5305. This porcelain figure depicts a female entertainer in a jester-style costume, wearing a light blue dress and pointed hat accented with black polka dots and white ruffles with black piped edges. The figure is captured in a dynamic pose, balancing five colorful spheres in yellow, green, magenta, purple, and blue. Set atop a tan stylized pillar on a base decorated with a black wavy line. Commedia dell'arte-inspired, the design reflects the rich history of comic performers, from 16th-century Italian improvisational theater through pantomime, vaudeville, and 19th"20th century touring circuses. The underside bears the Royal Doulton Prototype Only mark.
