Charles Vyse Chelsea English pottery figure titled The Gypsies, dated 1925. This hand-painted glazed ceramic figurine depicts a gypsy mother and father holding a baby. The female figure is modeled wearing a black hat, a purple jacket, and a long blue skirt, holding a stack of papers and an infant bundled in a multi-colored striped wrap. The male figure stands beside her in a gray flat cap, a yellow and black striped waistcoat, and a green and white checked overcoat, carrying a bouquet of flowers and an umbrella. The group is set on a rectangular base with a hand-painted simulated cobblestone surface and cream-colored beveled sides. The underside of the base features hand-painted marks in blue underglaze including the date 1925, the CV monogram for Charles Vyse, and the word CHELSEA.
