^Lot 66 Cauldon for Tiffany & Co. Porcelain Game Bird Cabinet Plate

A circular English porcelain cabinet plate featuring a hand-painted sporting scene of red grouse. The central well depicts two birds in flight over a moorland landscape with rocks and tall grasses, signed D. Birbeck in the lower-left foreground. The plate is designed with a scalloped rim and a wide border featuring raised-gold acid-etched scrollwork patterns. The edge is finished with solid gilding. The reverse bears several marks including the printed black mark CAULDON England and a circular mark for Brown-Westhead, Moore and Co. Cauldon Place England. It is also marked for the retailer Tiffany and Co. New York. The subject Red Grouse is handwritten in red script. Attached to the base is a biographical label for the artist Donald Birbeck, a Rubin Collection sticker, and various inventory labels.
