^Lot 65 Cauldon for Tiffany & Co. Hand Painted Porcelain Game Bird Plate

This fine porcelain cabinet plate was manufactured by Cauldon Ltd in England and retailed by Tiffany and Co in New York. The circular form features a scalloped rim and a low gilded footrim. The central decoration consists of a hand painted vignette depicting two pochard ducks in flight over a marshy landscape, executed in a soft atmospheric style. The wide rim is decorated with elaborate gilded scrollwork and beaded accents. The front of the plate is signed D. Birbeck in the lower right of the vignette. The reverse bears several marks: a green printed Cauldon England mark, a circular red-brown transfer mark for Brown Westhead Moore and Co, Cauldon, England, and Tiffany and Co New York. The subject is identified by a red script inscription reading Pochard. A biographical sticker regarding the artist Donald Birbeck is affixed to the base.
