^Lot 44 Royal Doulton by David Henry Souter Kateroo Series Ware Plate, The Lovers

A circular earthenware cabinet plate from the Kateroo series designed for Royal Doulton by the artist David Henry Souter. The face of the plate features a central black transfer-printed illustration of two stylized tuxedo cats, one standing and one reclining, face-to-face. The title THE LOVERS is printed below the standing cat. The central motif is framed by an Art Nouveau style border featuring a scrolling pebble or bubble pattern in black. The outer rim is finished with a hand-painted green enamel line. The item is signed SOUTER on the front to the right of the illustration. The reverse bears the Royal Doulton backstamp.
