Lot 268 Limited Edition Boehm Ivory Chest Relief Porcelain Plaque, Tutankhamun Exhibition

This high-relief porcelain plaque was produced by the Edward Marshall Boehm studio in the United States. Titled Ivory Chest Relief, this piece is model TC 4 and is marked as number 44 of a limited issue. It was created to commemorate the United States Bicentennial and the North American tour of the Treasures of Tutankhamun exhibition between 1976 and 1979. The bas-relief scene depicts a Pharaoh and Queen within a garden of papyrus plants and hieroglyphs. The decoration is executed in hand-painted polychrome enamels, primarily in lapis blue, coral, and white, with significant gold gilt highlights on a matte cream ground. The reverse features a detailed backstamp acknowledging the Egyptian Museum, Cairo, and the six hosting United States museums: National Gallery of Art, Field Museum, New Orleans Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Seattle Art Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The plaque is housed in a silver-toned faux-bamboo wooden frame.
