Lot 193 Capodimonte Neoclassical Figural Lidded Urn

This 19th-century Capodimonte porcelain lidded urn features ornate figural scenes in bas-relief, hand painted and gilded. The hard-paste porcelain vessel is of baluster form, raised on a circular pedestal foot and a square plinth. The decoration consists of classical draped female figures and putti in a puce camaïeu palette against a heavily gilded ground. The urn is flanked by two handles modeled as elephant heads with trunks forming the attachment points. The domed lid is topped with a bud-form finial. The piece is of multi-part construction held together by a central metal bolt. The underside of the base features an underglaze blue crowned N mark.
