Lot 110 Japanese Satsuma Earthenware Ginger Jar

Item/Description: Japanese Satsuma earthenware ginger jar, ovoid form with high, rounded shoulders and a matching domed lid. Meiji Period, late 19th Century. Elaborately decorated in polychrome enamels and extensive gold gilt. The primary decorative program features figural scenes within scalloped reserves, depicting courtly dignitaries in a stylized landscape. The surrounding body is embellished with dense geometric and floral brocade motifs in tones of iron-red and brown.
