Lot 103 Japanese Satsuma Moriage Figural Vase

Item/Description: Japanese Satsuma moriage figural vase dating to the Meiji Period, circa 1868-1912. Ovoid earthenware body with a flared, scalloped rim and twin sculptural scroll handles at the neck. Decorated in a vibrant palette of polychrome enamels with extensive moriage (raised slip) and gilt detailing. The primary face features a large figural scene of geishas in traditional patterned kimono within a stylized landscape of rolling hills and clouds. The reverse of the vessel displays a continuous floral composition of oversized, multi-colored blossoms and deep green foliage that wrap around the ovoid body, maintaining the same cream crackle-glaze ground and textured moriage (raised enamel). The neck and foot are further embellished with bold floral blossoms and traditional mountain motifs, set against a characteristic cream-colored crackle-glaze ground. Base marked with characters.
