Lot 99 Japanese Imari Porcelain Footed Bowl
Item/Description: Japanese Imari porcelain footed bowl dating to the Late Meiji period, circa 1868-1912. Deep circular bowl elevated on a short, tapered foot with a "Greek key" border in underglaze blue. The exterior is densely decorated in the Kinrade aesthetic with the traditional Imari palette of underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron red with gilt accents. The design features large, circular medallions depicting stylized cranes with outspread wings, interspersed with fan-shaped panels containing pine trees and traditional landscape motifs. The interior is finished in a clean white glaze, characteristic of high-quality Arita export porcelain.
Underside marked with a "Kaku-Tomi", an auspicious mark common on Arita export wares during the late Meiji and Taisho periods. It was used by many different kilns in the Arita region starting in the late Edo period and continued through the Meiji and Taisho eras to signify "good fortune" to the owner.
