Lot 48 Signed Paul Rand IBM 75 Lithograph Poster
Item/Description: Original, dramatic signed Paul Rand lithograph poster is a reprint of the artist's iconic IBM 75 design, originally created in 1975. Confetti-like vibrant colors against a striking black background with a large 75 in the center. Artist signature and dedication lower left: Paul Rand, Gordon Pauchaud. This work was gifted by the artist to the artist's friend.
Paul Rand, born Peretz Rosenbaum, was essentially self-taught. Though he would go on to attend Pratt Institute, Parsons School of Design, and Yale University. Rand played a pivotal role in shaping the visual identity of American advertising and branding in the 20th Century, turning advertising into modernist art. In 1956, Rand was hired by IBM to help shape the company’s global brand and design their logo. He would work for IBM for three decades creating some of his most famous designs including the Eye-Bee-M rebus, campaigns for Westinghouse and Cummins and creating the ABC, UPS and NeXT logos.
