Lot 135 1839 N-8 R1 Head of 1840, PCGS graded MS63 Brown

1839 N-8 R1 Head of 1840, PCGS graded MS63 BrownLustrous light bluish steel and violet with mellowed rose in protected areas. The surfaces are satiny and the only notable marks are traces of a fingerprint at stars 7-9, a small spot of darker toning close below star 8, and a tiny tick on the diagonal of the N in CENT. MDS, die state b, with lightly flowlined fields. The early die line from the lower berry right of the E in ONE to the leaf below is gone but the narrow rim cud under the 839 has not formed. Graded MS63 by Noyes and tied for CC#3 in his census, photo #27127. Our grade is MS63. A very attractive example of this "Redbook" variety, and it comes with a nice provenance.Certificate Number: 37265.63/34411702Pedigree: Ex William P. Donlon, Abe Kosoff 1/1956:1743-R. E.
