Lot 132 1839 N-6 R2 Booby Head, PCGS graded MS66 Brown, CAC Approved
1839 N-6 R2 Booby Head, PCGS graded MS66 Brown, CAC ApprovedThe obverse is lustrous chocolate with bluish steel overtones while the reverse is a lighter shade of frosty chocolate and steel brown. Both sides are very lightly woodgrained, especially the obverse. A small splash of darker steel toning over the junction of the N & E in ONE is the only mark that catches your eye, but there is a tiny spot of carbon in the field over the hair bun and a small planchet chip in the dentils under star 1 (as struck). The surfaces are satiny and this cent has excellent eye appeal. Nicely struck LDS, die state d, with a fine die crack through the D in UNITED to the wreath where it meanders around clockwise until it exits into the bottom of the U in UNITED. Called MS61 and tied for CC#2 in the Noyes census, his photo #21870. Bland says MS60+ and CC#3. Our grade is MS63.
