Lot 91 1837 N-8/7 R1 Plain Hair Cord, Medium Letters, PCGS graded MS66 Brown, CAC Approved

1837 N-8/7 R1 Plain Hair Cord, Medium Letters, PCGS graded MS66 Brown, CAC ApprovedVery lustrous light olive and bluish steel with generous traces of mellowed mint red on both sides, particularly on the reverse. The planchet is covered with satiny mint frost, even on the highest points of the devices. Sharply struck and nearly flawless. A carbon spot on a leaf under the A in STATES is the only defect, and its location minimizes its impact on the eye appeal. EDS+, die state b. The die lines over ERICA are clear and there is a tiny lump over the right top of the N in CENT. This is Newcomb's #8. A beautiful cent; not seen by Noyes. Our grade is MS64, CC#4 for the variety in our census. (The holder is scuffed.)Certificate Number: 1735.66/25008176Pedigree: Ex Anthony J. Terranova 8/2013-Terry S. Denman Collection
