1837 N-6 R2 Plain Hair Cord, Medium Letters, PCGS graded MS66 BrownBeautiful lustrous bluish steel and light olive with at least 20% of the planchet showing faded mint red, mostly on the reverse. Must have been close to getting an "RB" designation from PCGS. Unbroken satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is outstanding. Just a few trivial marks from flawless. A light nick or planchet flake on the rim at star 6, a tiny speck of carbon at the dentils right of star 13, and a barely visible scratch between the I & T in UNITED are good identifying marks. Sharply struck MDS, die state b. Die lapping has removed the tiny lumps around the outside berry under TE in UNITED, but a few remain tucked tightly around the berry left of the bottom of the C in CENT. A wonderful cent that comes with an excellent provenance. Our grade is MS63+, close to MS64. Noyes says MS63 and tied for CC#1, his photo #36383.
