Lot 78 1836 N-4 R3 NGC graded MS65 Red & Brown

1836 N-4 R3 NGC graded MS65 Red & BrownLustrous light brown and steel with very subtle overtones of light bluish steel. Lighter reddish tan faded down from mint color shows in protected areas, particularly on the reverse. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is outstanding. Sharply struck with trivial marks including a couple small spots of darker olive brown toning (not carbon) right of star 6, another under the 6, and one right of star 3. Faint traces of an old fingerprint show at stars 11-12. E-MDS, die state b early, with very fine die cracks on both sides. The dentils are sharp and the narrow rim cud from star 1 to star 2 has not formed. Graded MS63 and finest in the Noyes census ahead of the ANS Coin, his photo #30029. Del Bland says MS65 and finest known. Our grade is MS63+. This cent comes with an amazing provenance that has been traced back more than a century.Certificate Number: 4196204-001Pedigree: Ex Peter Mougey, Esq., Thomas L. Elder 9/1/1910:193-Dr. Henry W.
